Roman Holiday is one of those classic films that deserves every bit of its reputation. Sick of processions and affairs of state, a young princess escapes her boring life for carefree day in the streets of Rome, accompanied by a reporter who doesn't let on that he knows her secret. Audrey Hepburn is radiant in her first starring role that won her an Oscar for Best Actress in 1953. However, not to be outdone, the eminent Gregory Peck delivers an excellent performance, along with Eddie Albert as his photographer side-kick. The movie was filmed entirely in Rome, and it was intentionally done in black and white so the amazing scenery wouldn't detract from the acting. This was likely a good decision, because the lead performances shouldn't be ignored.
