Funny Face

We've been on a classic movie kick lately, ever since we picked several old films up cheap on DVD. Our last one was Funny Face, a musical romantic comedy with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire. With Astaire in the picture, you know there will be dancing. But some of the best dance parts come from Hepburn, who actually was trained as a ballerina in her native Netherlands before she became a film star. The most recognizable scene in the movie is actually the beatnik club scene with Audrey Hepburn that you now see on Gap commercials. Unfortunately, the Gap commercial is a cooler sequence. In fact, though there were some humorous parts, Funny Face is remarkably thin on plot. It became a classic through Hepburn and Astaire, not because it is a great movie.
